Privacy?
Currently, the photo gallery has privacy settings on it from anonymous and authenticated users. Meaning those type accounts cannot access it.
Only Famly and Friend type accounts have access.
All other content on the site, (i.e., blogs, pages, forums, or whatever) is accessible to Anonymous level.
Using that for the discussion here, does anyone think you might prefer some content to also be private?
For example, let's say you blog is desired to be only read by Family, or only by Friends.
Same thing could be done for Recipes and so on.
Please share your thoughts on this as soon as you could because implementing this earlier is less challenging since the amount of content is low right now. Something to think about as it will impact on each user will determine what Access level their submitted Content shall be. Course it can always be changed if the author wants to later on down the road.
Just wanted to put that real option on the table here for our project here.
Thanks!
And I prefer more privacy. Can it be set up for the author to choose just family or just friends or the choice of all??
I don't mind more privacy either. I don't really care is what I'm saying.
can be implemented on privacy. It is broad b/c there are various content types available to us.
I provided examples and you would need to say what you think you'd prefer to have privacy on. It is possible to implement a "choice" on Access at creation time of the content by the Author.
So outline what your thoughts are, the more specifics the better. Brainstorming is always good.
Would really like to be an inviting place.
Hi all,
I'm borrowing Bunka Bill's laptop, trying to decide if I really, really want one. Anyway, I googled Molimbo Cafe and was surprised at what I found. Guess I wasn't keeping up on the security/privacy aspect of it. So the blogs, comments and forums can be read by anyone who happens to stumble on the site....including any photos you attach to them., which means, of course, that all of that is out there on the internet. Carl, you mentioned having a choice of privacy settings. Has that happened yet? Call me paranoid, but I think we should be more careful here.

Gwamma!!
Here is what I come up with a search of Molimbo Cafe. <== click the link here. I see only 2 pages from our site. The rest of the list are things not related to our site at all.
I informed everyone months ago via email that the site would be public, which is why Google will eventually find and index content. It's been a long time since I announced that though. Basically, people were having a hard time remembering to get pass the security login, followed by a second login to access the site. This resulted in very rare use of the site. Perhaps just an annoyance of how things were setup. So in order to help with simpler access, the full lockdown was removed. Furthermore, to include Friends more easily with the site.
As for your question about Privacy. What are you looking for exactly? I asked for what you had in mind in my post above yours. Here you go, if these forums are still a little quirky for you:

As of now:
Photo Gallery is hidden until a user is granted access.
Recipes are only seen by Family Members. Partly due to testing and working it out.
Hope that all helps. Let me know and please anyone else, provide your input.
Yes, there are only two pages when you google Molimbo Cafe, but when I clicked on the first one I could read all the blogs, forums and comments (without signing in). Could also right click (and save) any photos attached to them. The gallery is hidden though. I tried again after reading your last post and could only read the blogs. Tried clicking on your beer recipe and was told I had to sign in, but I could still right click and save. Same with your other photos. Don't know if you tightened up the privacy settings or if it was just a fluke yesterday. I'm glad to know you, as Administrator, approve the registration and not just anyone can get access. There are a lot of strange people out there and my main concern is the photos (especially of the little ones). Soooo....can you change the security settings on the Blogs so log in is necessary to read them?? Or...am I the only one who's concerned about it?
You are correct that the blogs, forums, and comments are accessible without sigining. That has been intended, moreover i describing what is hidden, Gallery and Recipes only.
Yes, you can right-click and save the photos that ppl have chosen to use from the Gallery. It's a small thumbnail and when you click it normal, you can't access the larger size of it. This was intended. To pick and choose what photos are desired in the Blogs and Forums. Without knowing specifically what you did on the Beer reciipe, I suspect you clicking on a thumbnail as normal, hence no full access to the image in the Gallery.
All this has been intended in the configuration. We share the same concern about the photos, which is why the Gallery is locked down. Again, only select thumbnails are chosen by the author to put in Blogs or elsewhere. It's their choice.
I never planned on making the entire site private. We want people to be able to read the stories without having to sign in because to many its just an annoyance. The idea is to be inviting/sharing as we have lots of friends interested in what is going on.
If you desired to have an optional privacy setting for Blogs like the Recipes, then that can be done as well.
Meaning, the author may choose at composition time if the Blog is to be private. Maybe that is something you'd like for yourself? Sorry if I wasn't getting that.

I wouldn't want to deprive the world of my incredible writing talents, and since my life is SO INTERESTING everyone should be able to read about it.
