The CACA's Xmas Tree 2009

Off to Cut our Tree

I've always desired to go out and cut our tree down that would be the Xmas Tree.  Last year, the best we could do was go to a Nursery where they had a grove of trees to pick from.  However, they were already cut and just held with a garden stake.  The variety of choice was good, so it at least felt a little au natural coupled with temperatures in the 20s.  The best part was having the girls, dressed from head to toe ala Randy:A Christmas Story, walk about and help choose the tree.  Surprisingly, it was not a devisive act amongst them.  HAHAHAAHAH

So this year, being back here in CA, I was wondering about finding a true tree farm, where we could choose and cut.  After a good chat with a coworker by the name of Chris Shipley, there was a farm not far from us here in Sacramento.  A place where they grow several varieties, various sizes, and all for the same price, including the nylon rope!!  The place is called Davis Ranch and is located south east of Sacramento off Highway 16 in Sloughhouse.  The first weekend after Thanksgiving is when we try to go out for that tree, which we did on Saturday December 5th.  Then of course to do the decorations!!

We all arrived at Davis Ranch in the truck.  It was mild 60-ish day with a light wind.  Tons of other people there, but it was not overrun.  whew!  Pulling up, we were handed a saw and directed to the grove.  We worked our way to the back side, got out, and started perusing the choices.  Oh my I was just so excited and happy for this.  The only thing missing was snow!  I mean could you blame me after having been in Colorado for the last 8 years where snow was all around by this time?

The girls of course....stayed close!  :P  As you can see from the pictures, they each found their Xmas trees.  They even found the Charlie Brown tree, multiples of them.  It was quite awesome to see and enjoy.  Took us about 15 minutes to arrive upon *the* tree for the CACA's 2009 Xmas!!  Of course, Angie and I like different trees...and just had to *poll* the girls on choosing.  :snicker:  So I did the only proper thing in that situation...go find a different tree!!!  LOL

We found that different tree about 10 yards away.  Everyone was happy with it.  Adrian and Corina had their fun continually going out of site from us.  You can't see much of a little one just past a few feet!  I busted out the saw and decapped our chosen Xmas tree.  Loaded it into the truck and drove back to finish up with some snacks and apple cider!  Santa was onsite too.  Corina and Adrian actually took to him just fine.  They couldn't stop waving and saying hi to Santa after the visit while eating a short distance away.

We arrived back home a bit later to get things ready to decorate the tree.  Our decorations though were all in storage and I was not successful at retrieving them.  It was a bit frustrating....to not have our traditional, family pieces.  The ones that we really adore.  In any event, we got some new ones to take their place for this year, in case my next visit to the storage remains unfruitful.  (I have to pull everything out)  So there you have it, the decorated Xmas tree for us this year as well as the outside lights.  I was able to find that box!!

Take care and hope your tree search/decorating was just as eventful.
